TORONTO CHILDREN’S PHOTOGRAPHER | LITTLE BOOK WORM

Toronto-children's-photographer-LLB-Creative-kids-reading-2A while ago I photographed a charming little bookworm. It was such a wonderful afternoon, capturing one of this family’s most treasured daily rituals — storytime! Not only did booking a session of this nature encourage relaxed, natural images, but it was also a way for mum and dad to see storytime from a new perspective. They are always so engrossed in the story with their little one, that they could never capture the beauty and love of this precious family time themselves on camera. (PS: I can’t get enough of this little man’s eyebrows!)

Ask about my Children’s Activity Photo Sessions — each is designed specifically to suit your child and is created around an activity that he or she LOVES to do! It’s a great way for parents to not only get lovely, real family photos, but also allows those little yet profound moments that would otherwise not be seen by a camera to be documented beautifully. These are the moments you’ll remember the most!

Toronto-baby-photographer-LLB-Creative-tiny-toesHere’s a little sneak peek from a baby photo session I had this weekend. At what point do toes stop being cute and charming? I am most definitely the type of person who strongly dislikes feet… but show me a baby’s toes and I cannot contain my glee! More from the wonderful home photo session coming soon! I feel incredibly lucky to be asked to document a person’s earliest moments in this world!

TORONTO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY | WINTER WEDDING

Toronto-weddding-photographer-LLB-Creative-winter-weddingWhere does the time go? I cannot believe that it is just over a year ago today that I photographed this exceptionally beautiful winter wedding. This couple was such a delight to work with — together we braved the cold (and let me tell you, it was COLD!) to create some truly unique photographs. Who knew this chilly February celebration would be one of the weddings that most warmed my heart? Everything about this day was absolutely lovely, from the people, to the speeches, to the decor, to the general feeling of joy that was palpable in every moment. I will always remember that day with great fondness. Wishing the amazing couple a happy one year wedding anniversary!

TORONTO NATURE PHOTOGRAPHER: PEONY BLOOM

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe best piece of advice I was given when I first started learning photography was this: “It doesn’t matter what gear you have. The most expensive equipment in the world won’t buy an artist’s eye.”

As a poor student who was working three jobs just to make rent, tuition fees and grocery bills, high-end photography gear was most definitely out of reach and as a result I felt completely inadequate trying to learn all the technical aspects of dealing with a camera. So these words of wisdom completely transformed my approach to photography and gave me hope. I stopped worrying about camera makes and models and instead focused on seeing the world in a way that nobody else did.

This photo which is very dear to me and titled ‘Sleeping Peony’ was taken with my first semi-manual camera — a $400 little Olympus point and shoot. Yes, I started learning photography on a point and shoot — an approach that isn’t advised by a lot of photo institutions, but a great way to explore your vision and aesthetic without having to spend a lot of money.

After a few months, once I felt confident that I had something to offer the photography world, had read several photography books and had saved up, I invested in my first affordable DSLR, enrolled in a some classes and have never looked back.

What I’m trying to say is that if you want to learn something, be it photography, painting, music, sculpting or whatever, don’t let the misconception that you ‘have to have the best gear to begin’ hold you back. It’s not about having the best gear at any point in a creative career; it’s about offering a new perspective, a perspective that translates into an aesthetic and skill all your own.

Toronto-wedding-photographer-LLB-Creative-Rose-PortraitHappy Valentine’s Day ladies and gentlemen! To mark the day I thought I’d dig up a couple of outtakes from a beauty piece I shot last summer for Ottawa Style Magazine. Although this concept was all about summer makeup trends, I think it would be so much fun to start offering studio bridal portraits. What do you think? Beautiful brides with their stunning bouquets? What could be prettier! Have a wonderful day everyone!

Toronto-pet-photographer-Pawsh-Studio-snowy-dogs-750I’m sorry for the cross-post today, but this mini snow pet photo session just had to be shared! If you follow this humble little photo blog regularly, you’ll know that I do fine art pet portraiture through my other business, PAWSH STUDIO and while I do my best to keep my animal photo work separate from my people photo work, I do like to sprinkle a bit of the furry fun in once and while.

TORONTO CHILDREN’S PHOTOGRAPHER | SAVE 10% THIS MONTH!

LLB-Creative-Toronto-Children's-Photographer-Feb-specialIn honour of Family Day (yes, that is a holiday here in Ontario) I’ve decided to run a MONTH LONG special offering families 10% OFF any child’s photo session. Whether you have a precious newborn, a giggling baby, an energetic tot or a shy little bookworm, this discount will apply to any child’s photo session — studio, outdoors or at home — in the month of February.

I get a lot of questions about how my photo sessions work, so to give you a better idea of what to expect, here are some answers to six F.A.Qs that land in my inbox almost weekly:

1.  How long is an LLB Creative photo session?
I guarantee a 1-2 hour session in every single photo package that I offer. One hour in my mind is simply not enough time to get everyone warmed up and relaxed. Plus I am usually having such fun with clients that a single hour of fun just isn’t enough! Sometimes with little ones things take a bit longer and that extra time (if needed) is not billed, as it is a call that I make to ensure your final photos are as beautiful as possible. I offer a leisurely yet productive experience that is filled with laughter and memories. I don’t stare at my watch the entire time and I don’t stress clients to get everything wrapped up in a certain window of time. If we need longer, we take longer — it is as simple as that. My priority is always that the child is having fun and that I am creating your dream photographs.

2.  What sort of photo packages do you offer?
Fantastic question! The answer is something for everyone. Every photo package includes at least one fine art print for you to display in your home and offers all sorts of convenient add-ons to completely customize a package to suit your family. The best way to see what they are all about is to email me and request my 2014 Catalog — it will have all of the important information you are looking for, including prices, breakdowns, product info and my portfolio.

I can tell you this, however, every photo package receives a private, beautifully designed online gallery with lots and lots and lots of proofs from which you can choose your final photographs. If you book a package that gives you 20 final images, chances are you’ll have at least 35 to choose from (often times way more, because I cannot help myself! If there is a great photo, I want you to see it and make it available for viewing at no extra cost!)

3.  I’m worried my kids are too energetic for a photo session….
This is a common concern that I hear from parents to which I reply, “There is no such thing as too energetic.” My background in photography is photojournalism — I originally began taking pictures to accompany articles that I was working on for newspapers and magazines. This unique background forces me to go into an uncontrolled environment and find a way to compose a beautiful image as it naturally unfolds. It is a technique that I find very beneficial when working with children in particular, as I do not pose photo subjects, but instead follow their natural lead with my camera in hand. It is my job to ‘see’ the moment worth capturing and document it as it passes right before our very eyes. So please, don’t worry about having boisterous children — they are often the best photo subjects to work with because they offer up a variety of true moments.

4.  What if the weather doesn’t hold or I don’t like my final photographs?
Quite simply, I work around it! Whenever you book a photo session with me, specifically an outdoor session, I insist clients book two dates — the second in case the first one is rained out. This makes scheduling your lovable brood far easier and preserves the photo session. There is no extra cost for rescheduling due to poor weather — why would there be when Mother Nature is utterly beyond our control?

Before every photo session I offer a FREE consultation where we all get together ahead of time to chat about your photo session. This is to help us all get to know one another and to make sure we are on the same page, so that your photo session can be tailored to suit you!

If for some reason you don’t love your final photographs, I offer one of two options; we can reshoot or I can give you your money back. Investing in family photographs is a big deal and working with a new photographer always something of a worry, because you want your photographs to be fantastic! So please, don’t let the fear of not liking your photographs stop you from chronicling your little one’s childhood — if you hate the final images, your money comes back to you!

5. Do I get hi-res digital files with my photo session?
You will receive two sets of digital files of your final photographs on a CD; one set that is low-res and tastefully watermarked for online sharing on Facebook and Twitter, etc., and a second set that is hi-res and formatted specifically for 4×6 prints.

The reason low-res, watermarked files are for online use is two-fold; a watermark helps to protect your precious photographs and my creative work from being plagiarized or used without consent by others. However, I do understand that if you are printing photographs for your own self-made family album that watermark can be an annoyance, thus the second set of files.

Larger prints — 5×7 and up — are typically printed for frames and displays and for this reason they need to be ordered directly through me to ensure that you are getting access to the best inks, paper types and printing quality possible. A lot of time, care and investment goes into choosing a photographer. Yet unfortunately, no matter how beautiful the photograph, an image can look dreadful and cheap when subjected to poor formatting and sub-par printers. So your display photographs will be processed by me directly to make sure they do not fade over time and look the absolute best they can look!

6.  What if I can’t afford prints at the time of my photo session?
Believe me, I understand all too well the importance of remaining on budget. If you don’t have the means to order fine art prints, albums or large format canvases right away, please do not fret. You have access to your final photographs indefinitely, meaning that when the time is right and you would like to order that stunning 20×30 canvas of your kiddos at the beach for their playroom you just need to email or call me. It’s that simple! Your final photographs are never off-limits and they don’t disappear. So if you booked a photo session for your child this February (to take advantage of the 10% off discount!) you would have the freedom to order fine art prints or a canvas in November for Christmas if you wanted — or even next spring! The choice is entirely up to you!

There is a great deal to consider when choosing a photographer to work with your family. It is a huge decision to make and one that I want all clients — past, present and future alike — to feel completely comfortable with. For that reason, I am always open to questions, so if you don’t see an answer to something you’re wondering above, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I am always happy to help so that you can enjoy a photo experience that suits your little ones!
